active ageing and solidarity between generations
2012 is the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations, and as this year comes to a close, we are being called on to carry on the legacy of the year by making our own unique mark on the future of active ageing and intergenerational solidarity in your community.
In Ireland, we are living for longer than ever before and this should be celebrated, but growing older is usually portrayed as a time of decline, as well as financial and social dependency. However, we are ALL growing older. If we improve how we understand ageing by fostering intergenerational solidarity in our communities, we can all be active, happy and respected as we grow older. In an ever ageing country, this has never been more important for the future of Ireland than it is now.
